The Schack Art Center is an admission-free gallery and art education facility in historic Downtown Everett. Visitors will enjoy rotating exhibits of local and well-known artists. There's a glass art hot shop visible through a wall of windows. Classrooms are provided for art education. Attached on the block are studio lofts artists may lease. https://www.schack.org/about-the-schack/
On this day in February 2022, I had some time to kill before an appointment in Everett. The Schack turned up on a list online of Everett tourist attractions. It lies in the historic Downtown district opposite some beautiful Victorian houses from the 1890's. Along Hoyt Avenue a lot of public art is on display.
I happened to turn up on the last day of an exhibit of local Black artists. I was particular impressed by the portraiture. The winner of the show to my mind was Seattle artist, Myron Curry, known for his wall murals and portraits. Myron only took up art seriously at age 28.
Down one hallway were displayed the artwork of high school students who had participated in a competition. I was equally impressed with some of these pieces - and not only the winners - they might have been moved to the main gallery.
I will definitely watch for new exhibits and plan to drop in on the Schack a couple times per year.
Continuing on, I made a stop at Howarth Park with its view of the Port of Everett and Possession Sound.
