I don't think Colion is right, under Common Law (which Canadian law is based upon) you have the right to use ANY means possible to protect your life or that of another. So in the UK if I have shotgun and someone comes into the house and I have a justifiable belief that person intends to harm me or my family I have the right to blow his head off. The important part being what I say to police when they turn up. If I make clear I felt the person threatened my life eg I thought they were carrying a weapon, they made verbal threats, I told them to leave and they advanced the death will be justified. If the guy is running away from the building and I shoot him in the back then it will be murder.

Trudeau is lying in the video, some weapons in Canada are restricted and no one has the right to own one of those, you need to have good reason to own one. All pistols are in this class. Other guns though are unrestricted and provided you are not mentally ill, you're not a felon and haven't been stalking people or making threats/act erratically you will get a permit and can own those guns. Once they are in your possession you DO have a right to use them for self-defence.
