Peeling back the layers of lies because the time is short
This Psalm lays out the walk of covenant loyalty and faithfulness to the Lord. As such it is a wonderful description of the manner in which David strived to live. Even more, It is the perfect description of the way the Messiah did live.
• People hesitate to call a Psalm Messianic • Many of the Psalms are quoted in the New Testament • This is a Messianic Psalm. It was about David striving to live a life of covenant loyalty and faithfulness. It is also about Jesus perfectly walking out that covenant loyalty and faithfulness. • To whom do we go when we are oppressed? The Lord. • We have no good apart from the Lord. Think about all that means! • We should take delight in our fellow believers. Jesus did and does. • When we pursue other things than the Lord we are running after other gods. • The psalms are very effective in painting clear contrasts • The Lord has blessed me with all that I need. • The Lord gives counsel, wisdom and truth. He instructs our hearts and trains them for dealing with adversity and trials. • Jesus was unflappable because he knew his lot and portion were protected by his Father. • The "path of life" led Jesus out of the tomb on Easter. • I have never known the true "fullness of joy" but, I will! • The Holy Spirit could move David to write a Psalm about his life that was also about Jesus' life. • Peter and Paul tell us this Psalm was about Jesus.
