The gospel of Luke contains perhaps the most complete story of the life and times of Messiah Yeshua. In it we find the most detail of his birth along with the events leading up to it. Luke records not only the miraculous birth of Messiah Yeshua, but also that of His relative known as John the Baptist. After his prelude and salutation to Theophilus, Luke begins his narrative with the story of an elderly priest, Zacharias and his barren wife Elisheva. Luke 1:5-7 NKJV 5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. 7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years. What is the connection between the birth of John the Baptist, the son born to Zacharias and Elisheva, and the birth of Yeshua? They are both miraculous births only a few months apart. How do these births compare to the births of Isaac and Samuel? Every barren woman mentioned in the Bible eventually bears a son who is set apart for God. The sons born to Elisheva and Miriam are no exception.
