The prophet Micah introduces himself as being from Moreshah and prophesying during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah kings of Judah. Micah does not mention any of the kings of Israel, although the visions that he was given concerned the capital cities of both Judah and Israel. Micah 1:1 KJV 1 The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. Micah prophesied after the death of King Jeroboam the grandson of Jehu of Israel which marked the fall of the house of Jehu. The judgment that God pronounced on the northern kingdom of Israel would fall within forty years of Jeroboam’s death and the nation would not rise again. Although Micah’s words are addressed in part to Israel and Samaria, the words are more of a warning to Judah that the judgment that would soon fall on Israel and its capital city of Samaria would also fall on Jerusalem and Judah unless they repented.
