As we ended chapter one of Nahum, God promised that Assyria would not attack Judah again and that Assyria would be completely cut off. It seems that, with these words, the prophecy against Nineveh and the entire Assyrian empire would be complete. However, God has further words to speak against Nineveh. He begins with a slightly sarcastic call to arms for the city. Nahum 2:1 NKJV 1 He who scatters has come up before your face. Man the fort! Watch the road! Strengthen your flanks! Fortify your power mightily. God states that the army that would scatter them, in this case the Babylonian army, is on its way. They are sarcastically encouraged to strengthen themselves to fight off their conquerors. The empire that taunted the cities they besieged with the uselessness of their gods and the futility of their defenses would be confronted with the futility of their own defenses and the helplessness of their gods. They would be on the receiving end of the biblical concept of measure for measure. The remaining words of Nahum spell out this judgment according to what they had done to other nations.
