The CDC published this meta-analyisis of ALL of the RCT research on effectiveness of masks from 1946 until July of 2018. 72 years worth of study. It was published first in Feb of 2020, and again in May of 2020. Here is the CDC conclusion: "Face Masks In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.51–1.20; I2 = 30%, p = 0.25)" Even an N95 mask, first developed by 3M to block smog particles in the range of 2.5microns or higher, hence the name N95PM2.5. The "N" tells you not to use it in oily environments. The 95 tells you that the mask is 95% effective at removing 2.5micron particles. A virus, like Covid-19, is 0.1 to 0.6 microns. It's like using a chain link fence to stop mosquitoes. Surgical and cotton masks are even worse, stopping less than 20% of viral particles. Would you trust armor that claimed to stop only 95 out of every 100 bullets fired at you? The data over the last two years supports the fact that masks didn't work. Compare the dates masks were imposed with the "new cases: graphs. The masks had NO effect in changing the shape of the curves. The curves were the same in states that forced mask wearing and in states that didn't.
