The Thomas More Society is a not-for-profit, national public interest law firm dedicated to restoring respect in law for life, family, and religious liberty. Based in Chicago, the Thomas More Society defends and fosters support for these causes by providing high quality pro bono legal services from local trial courts all the way to the United States Supreme Court.
Joe Scheidler, the co-founder of the Thomas More Society and founder of the Pro-Life Action League shares his candid thoughts in a 2016 interview for the Thomas More Society: "Working in pro life action, the kind of thing that we do, the non-violent direct action, we take an awful lot of getting used to liars. During the trial we had a woman come in and she was so good. We called her "Miss Hollywood". And it turned out she was from California. She just made up stories, she made up a story that she was going to have some work an abortion clinic, but it wasn't an abortion, and that we began hitting her with our signs and she had to be held and carried across the crowd by the escorts from the clinic. A total lie. And said it broke open her incision from whatever was done which wasn't an abortion, of course. A total lie, and we were able to later find out that it's part of what she did. She went around and falsely testified against pro-lifers. The Holy Terror, the movie they put out, I am supposed to be the holy terror. The plan they start out with - bombings and arson - all sorts of things, and then they show me before a congressional hearing. And you get used to that. You get used to paying a price and hearing lots of lies." Joe will forever be remembered as the 'godfather' of the pro-life movement.
