The Book of Samuel is about God bringing about the end of an old world and the beginning a new one. Worship is at the center of the world. The water from the garden where God and man meet flows out to the rest of the world. The world that flowed out from the worship at the Tabernacle set up in Exodus and Leviticus is about to end. God is establishing a new world, centered around a new form of worship. And because worship is central to everything else, this has a radical effect on the politics, culture, and society of Israel and the rest of the world. If we understand the lessons of the book of Samuel, we will understand the lessons for the church in our world today.
