A slightly thicker knot, the Half-Windsor is best used with a tie of medium thickness or less. It can be worn in most circumstances.

Some general tips: Make sure that the wide end of the tie is at least as long as the narrow end, and that the tip of the wide end hangs between the top and bottom of your belt buckle. This may require multiple attempts.
