Marek Hecko was imprisoned after stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend to death in a fit of rage, but the story of his capture is decidedly strange.
After the murder, Hecko, 26, decided to return to the scene of the crime in order to admire his handiwork and have a celebratory drink. There, he found two police officers, who he decided to impress with his knowledge of the deadly attack. He told them that he ‘knows what happened,’ before rambling about not wanting to give his name and the police not having any proof, then aggressively telling them ‘this city’s f***ing mine,’ all while swigging from a bottle of brandy. He later tried to pass the incident off as curiosity, after hearing about the murder on the news… despite the story not having been covered at that point. He was then arrested and charged with the murder.
Thanks to DNA evidence on the knife, CCTV footage of him going to the house and accidentally turning himself into the police, Hecko was sentenced to 26 years in prison.
